Learn More About Our Practice

I'm Dr. Roy and I’d like to personally invite you to explore what makes our practice unique and special.

About Us

We are very excited to be the first pediatric dental office in Lafayette. We truly enjoy and feel honored to serve the Lamorinda community and aim to make each dental visit a fun experience that your child will not forget!
Our Tooth Buds name was inspired by the fact that teeth stem from tooth buds, but also that we are "buds" with our patients and their families! The décor in each of the rooms in our office was inspired by a place that Dr. Roy has lived that has been important to her. We have a San Francisco, New York, and Boston room. We can't wait to have you check out our cities and have you become one of our "Tooth Buddies" soon!

Meet the Doctors

Dr. Barnali Roy grew up in Southern California. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. After college, she spent one year doing research in Boston at Harvard Medical School. She then went on to obtain her doctor of dental surgery (DDS) degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine where she was honored with an Award for Academic Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry.

During dental school, Dr. Roy realized her passion for working with children. She completed a postdoctoral residency program in Pediatric Dentistry at Columbia University-New York Presbyterian Hospital. During residency, she gained extensive experience in working with children with special healthcare needs, craniofacial anomalies, interceptive orthodontics, and treatment with IV and oral sedation. Dr. Roy is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Roy currently serves as the Secretary for the Contra Costa Dental Society and is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,  California Dental Association, and American Dental Association. Dr. Roy has participated in several mission trips to help provide dental care to children in various underserved parts of the world.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Roy enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog Buddy. She loves to travel and enjoys doing yoga, playing tennis and golf, hiking, painting, watching sports, and exploring the Bay area! Dr. Roy can also speak Spanish and Bengali.

Dr. Katie Kim grew up in the Bay Area. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology at the University of California, Irvine. She then moved to Los Angeles, CA to complete her doctor of dental surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Southern California, where she discovered her passion for working with children while volunteering at community clinics. She graduated in the top of her class and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society.

Dr. Katie then made the move to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to complete her residency in pediatric dentistry at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, a hospital consistently ranked in the top 10 of all U.S. Children’s Hospitals. Working in a Children’s Hospital and Level 1 trauma center granted her extensive experience in the areas of dental trauma, special healthcare needs, growth and development, pharmacological modalities including IV and oral sedation, and behavior modification/management. She is an active member of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

When not playing with her patients, Dr. Katie enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and crazy cat Flapjack “Jacky” Kim. On the weekends you will find her rock climbing, practicing yoga, going on hikes, playing the piano/ukulele, and knitting dolls for her loved ones.
